Urinary Tract Infection

The staff at Georgia Urology possesses specialized expertise in the diagnosis and management of urinary tract infections (UTIs) for men, women, and children.

By definition, a UTI is a bacterial infection that affects any part of the urinary tract. These infections occur when bacteria get into the bladder or kidney and multiplies. Although uncomfortable and, in many cases moderately to severely painful, UTIs are usually easy to treat with antibiotics.

While bladder infections are uncommon in men due to the makeup of the male anatomy, prostate infections are more common and require immediate attention and, in certain cases, extended antibiotic treatment.

In women, urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common and proper management is very important when it comes to preventing serious chronic conditions.

In children, UTIs most commonly take the form of bladder infections and may or may not be accompanied by underlying structural abnormalities of the urinary tract. It is recommended that UTIs in children be treated as soon as possible to avoid more serious conditions.

It is important to see a urologist if experiencing any symptoms. Although UTIs can cause discomfort, they are usually easily treated.  In addition, your urologist can often uncover the underlying cause.
