During the show, Dr. Taghechian and host Dr. Bruce Feinberg discussed vasectomy and tubal ligation, answered listeners’ questions, and shared expert advice on many urology-related topics.
Dr. Taghechian shared how she began a career in a male-dominated field and how her family influenced her decision to become a urologist. Although urologists see many male patients, Dr. Taghechian explained how she tailors her practice to receive an equal number of male and female patients.
She later explained the process of a vasectomy, the benefits of receiving the procedure, and why it is much simpler compared to tubal ligation, a surgery for female sterilization. Dr. Taghechian also spoke on the recent surge of vasectomy consultations and debunked vasectomy myths. “A vasectomy is a very safe procedure,” explained Dr. Taghechian. “It has minimal risk of complications, and the recovery period itself is about three days. We do recommend a week of rest, no heavy lifting, and not partaking in sexual activity to let the area heal.”
Dr. Shaya Taghechian practices at Georgia Urology’s Marietta and Woodstock offices. In addition to general urology, Dr. Taghechian’s special interest and expertise include prostate health, female urology, urinary control problems, and sexual dysfunction. Dr. Taghechian received her Bachelor of Science in biology and Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Emory University. She remained at Emory University, attending the School of Medicine, where she completed her medical degree. Dr. Taghechian completed a residency in surgery and urology at the University of Texas in Houston. She is a member of the American Urological Association.
