Georgia Urology’s Dr. Barry Zisholtz recently contributed to a medical case study that examined the relevance of petit’s triangle, an anatomical landmark that is not typically significant in clinical practices. This article detailed a rare case of a hydronephrotic kidney that was herniated through the Petit’s triangle of a morbidly obese woman.

This is the first known case of a kidney herniating through the Petit’s triangle in a patient with no history of surgery or trauma. The majority of lumbar hernias are acquired due to fascial and muscle weakness that develops over decades.
