Acclaimed physician to speak at fundraiser to help cure interstitial cystitis
Georgia Urology’s Dr. Jeffrey Proctor, an expert in the field of interstitial cystitis (IC), will be speaking at the ICA Walk for an IC Cure taking place Nov. 2 at Dellinger Park. This event serves as a fundraiser for the Interstitial Cystitis Association’s (ICA) mission to advance IC research, education, awareness and advocacy.
IC is recurring pelvic pain, pressure, or discomfort in the bladder and pelvic region, often associated with urinary frequency and urgency. Dr. Proctor treats IC at Georgia Urology’s Cartersville location. As a member of ICA’s Medical Advisory Board, Dr. Proctor has been involved in national research protocols for IC serving as principal investigator for a national, multi-center study.
“More than 12 million people in the US suffer from IC, and it can affect anyone,” says Dr. Proctor. “I’ve seen countless cases, and IC can have a dramatic, negative impact on the quality of life. We must continue raising awareness and striving for a cure. Events such as the ICA Walk for an IC Cure will help get us there, one step at a time.”
Dr. Proctor will make remarks prior to the beginning of the one-mile walk through Dellinger Park. He will then join fellow walk participants by leading a team of Georgia Urology staff along the course.
Awards will be given to the top fundraiser, the team with the most registered members, the top fundraising team, and the team with the most creative name. Anyone who fundraises $500 or more will receive a Walk for an IC Cure hoodie.
Registration fee is $10, and children ages 15 and younger are free. ICA Walk for an IC Cure t-shirts will be available for an additional $10.
ICA Walk for an IC Cure. 9-11 a.m. November 2. Dellinger Park, 100 Pine Grove Road, Cartersville.
