Dr. Mellis graduated with Highest Honors from Emory University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He received his Doctor of Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. He then completed his Surgical Internship and Urology Residency at the University of Oklahoma. He also completed his Fellowship in Urologic Oncology and Robotic Surgery under the direction of the distinguished Uro-oncologist, Dr. Michael S. Cookson.
In addition to general urology, Dr. Mellis has special interest and expertise in:
- Urological cancers
- Robotic and minimally invasive surgery
- Reconstructive urinary surgery
Dr. Mellis has staff privileges at Northside Forsyth and Northside Atlanta and is a diplomate of the American Board of Urology. He is also a member of the American Urological Association (AUA), Southeastern Section of the American Urological Association (SESAUA), and Georgia Urological Association (GUA). He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), a designation that demonstrates his commitment to high-quality surgical care, ethical conduct, and ongoing education. Dr. Mellis has also been recognized by his peers as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor.
Originally from New Orleans, Dr. Mellis, who is fluent in Greek, lives in Atlanta with his wife and two sons. He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and trying to catch as many Atlanta United games as possible.
